Over 160 area middle and high school students from Jim Hogg, Webb, and Zapata counties are participating in Texas A&M International University's 11th Annual Laredo Prefreshman Engineering Program (PREP) this summer.

Now in its 11th year, the PREP program provides high-ability local and area middle and high school students with exposure to college-level engineering and science studies.

PREP Program participants attend daily classes at TAMIU's new state-of-the-art north Laredo campus. Courses include logic, pre- engineering, computers, physics, problem-solving, mathematics, SAT preparation, research and study, and career orientation. Participants also attend field trips, including an upcoming trip to NASA, and talks by guest lecturers who work in the fields of engineering or science.

The summer PREP Program will operate at the University through July 26.
