TAMIU Schedules Summer Educational Leadership Conference July 30

An opportunity to share in current research, trends and critical issues in educational research will be the focus of a one-day summer educational leadership conference" at Texas A&M International University Tuesday, July 30, 1996 from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

"Dust Storms of Change: A Summer Educational Leadership Conference" is hosted by the Department of Professional Programs and Educational Administration of the College of Education at TAMIU.

Dr. Rosa Maria Vida, Interim Dean of the College of Education and chair of the Department of Professional Programs, said the Conference will offer participants an opportunity to acquaint themselves with important issues in educational leadership.

"As part of its committment to serving surrounding school communities, TAMIU has designed this Conference to offer our regional audience a chance to examine and share in research, trends and critical issues that affect all who work in education and its leadership," Dr. Vida explained.

The Conference will be scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Great Room of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library on the new TAMIU campus, 5201 University Boulevard.

Registration fee will be $25.00 per participant. Deadline for early registration is July 24. Registration at the door will be $35.

Three sessions are scheduled for the Conference.

Session One, scheduled from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., is entitled "Leadership for the 21st Century," and will be presented by Dr. Felipe Alaniz, Deputy Commisioner for Programs and Instruction, Texas Education Agency.

Session Two, scheduled from 10:34 a.m.- 11: 45 a.m., will be "New Developments Regarding the Implementation of Senate Bill I," also to be presented by Dr. Alaniz.

Session Three, scheduled from 1:30-3:00 p.m., will be "Effective Communication Techniques in Modifying Teacher Behavior: How to Say it Without Fear of Litigation," to be presented by Dr. Brigido Lopez, Assistant Professor of Educational Administration at TAMIU.

For those interested in registering by mail, a check for $25 can be made payable to Texas A&M International University and mailed to Dr. Rosa Maria Vida, Department of Professional Programs, 5201 University Boulevard, Laredo, TX. 78041-1999. Late registration will be conducted on-site July 30.
