The famed Three Tenors, Carreras, Domingo and Pavarotti, will be featured in a live closed circuit television broadcast hosted by International Bank of Commerce, KLRN-TV and Texas A&M International University this Saturday, July 20.

The concert broadcast is a special gift to the many Laredo donors who support KLRN's programming, said Cynthia Shields, KLRN event coordinator.

"We wanted to invite our special Laredo supporters who have been so pivotal in supporting KLRN through the years to attend this special evening of song at no charge," Shields said.

Weather permitting, the broadcast will be presented live from its outdoor performance at the New York Giants' Stadium at the Meadowlands in New York City, the only US venue for the artists' 1996 World Tour. Laredo will join only a handful of cities that will enjoy the closed circuit broadcast.

A reception for invited guests will be held in Texas A&M International University's Great Room beginning at 7 p.m. with the broadcast performance to follow at 8 p.m. in Bullock Hall.

Interim President Jose Garcia said the University is happy to be able to co-host the cultural event with International Bank of Commerce and KLRN.

"We recognize the tremendous impact public television programming provided by KLRN has on higher education and are happy to partner this special showing for KLRN's many Laredo supporters with International Bank of Commerce," he said.

International Bank of Commerce has underwritten costs of the evening's receptions.

IBC spokesperson Jorge Verduzco said the bank's support of KLRN is longstanding.

"International Bank of Commerce has long supported the important programming initiatives offered by KLRN. We are happy to be able to have a role in being able to bring this important cultural event to Laredo and encourage all supporters of public television and KLRN in particular to attend this special broadcast at Texas A&M International University."

Adored as individual performers by music-lovers worldwide, Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti first united as a trio for performances as The Three Tenors in July of 1990. That stunning event, broadcast from the Baths of Caracalla in Rome, was followed by another live performance in 1994 from Los Angeles' Dodgers Stadium.

In this new concert, the tenors are scheduled to perform a unique mixture of popular songs and grand opera arias accompanied by members of one of the world's premiere orchestras, The Metropolitan Orchestra. The concert will not be recorded for compact disk or home video release.

James Levine, who is conductor of the Metropolitan Orchestra, and who has worked with the three tenors for over 25-years, will conduct.

Invited guests can RSVP their attendance to 326 - 2171. A limited number of seats will be available to the public on a first-come, first served basis after invited guests have been seated.
