Qualified high school seniors who wish to get a head start on their higher education may enroll for University-level courses at Texas A&M International University this Fall.

Concurrent enrollment affords high school seniors an excellent opportunity to gain University-level credit and acclimate themselves to University life, said Maria R. Rosillo, Director of Admissions and Advisement at TAMIU.

Concurrently enrolled high school seniors may register for up to six credit hours each regular semester or three hours each summer school session. Students must maintain normal University-level progress of 2.0 grade point average or better in order to continue in subsequent semesters.

To be concurrently enrolled, high school seniors must complete the application process, submit an official high school transcript and a schedule of high school classes for current and subsequent semesters, have at least a 90 percent grade average, and have written permission from their high school principal or counselor.

"TAMIU's Concurrent Enrollment affords high school seniors an educational experience which will be highly valued in today's global environment. TAMIU is one of the State's most technologically advanced new four-year universities and we hope local and area students will take advantage of the educational opportunities offered here" said Rosillo.

Currently, the University has four computer labs, an academic enrichment center and library computer workstations. All told, some 600 computers are available at the University's state-of-the-art campus.

Student access computers allow TAMIU students to have their own email address, cruise the information superhighway, access Internet information, access multimedia abilities, "visit" other library holdings in cyberspace and more.

TAMIU will conduct Fall Registration on Wednesday, August 21 and Thursday, August 22 from 1:00 - 7:00 p.m. at TAMIU's north Laredo campus, 5201 University Boulevard.

A variety of day and evening courses in subjects ranging from art and astronomy to multicultural education and women's studies will be offered.

Fall semester courses begin August 26. For more information on the University's Concurrent Enrollment for high school seniors, call the TAMIU Office of Admissions, 326-2200 or visit offices in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building Room 168 West.

Office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Friday and 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
