Texas A&M International University students who will attend classes at TAMIU during the Fall semester must purchase a Fall Semester Student Parking Permit if they will park a private vehicle on TAMIU's north Laredo campus.

Private vehicles parked on Texas A&M International University's north Laredo campus that do not display a Fall Semester TAMIU Parking Permit will be ticketed beginning on the third class day of the Fall semester, said TAMIU Chief of Police Harry W. Stege. Fall semester courses at TAMIU begin August 26.

Penalty for a first citation is $10, and vehicles without valid parking permits may also be towed and impounded at the owner's expense.

TAMIU Fall Semester Parking Permits are available from the University Police Department located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building, Lower Level Room 002.

The hang-tag style Parking Permits issued for Fall will be used for the entire school year but must be revalidated at the beginning of the Spring and Summer semesters.

Fall Semester Student Parking Permits will be valid through December 31.

In order to obtain a parking permit, University students must have a receipt from the Business Office showing parking permit fees have been paid.

Parking fees for TAMIU students are $10 per long semester and $10 for summer. Motorcycle parking fees are $5 annually.

TAMIU faculty and staff who will park private vehicles on the University campus must also purchase a TAMIU Parking Permit. Parking fees for University faculty and staff are $20 annually. Motorcycle parking fees are $5 annually.

TAMIU parking fees were set by the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents, not by the University, explained Chief Stege.

"While it may be irritating to have to pay for parking, the cost for parking at TAMIU is less than at any other University in the A&M System, and much less than at other universities across the country," he said.

For more information on TAMIU Parking Permits, call the University Police Department at 326-2100.

TAMIU office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.
