Dean's Research Colloquium Part of Alumni Kickoff Celebration

A variety of intriguing topics will be explored in the Second Annual Dean's Research Colloquium, part of Friday's Alumni Homecoming for the Presidential Inauguration Celebration at Texas A&M International University.

The Colloquium will be hosted by the University's Faculty Senate and will take place Friday, Oct. 25, beginning at 7 p.m. Three concurrent sessions will be held in Bullock Hall 218, 219 and 220. All presentations are free of charge and open to the public.

Session I will take places in BH 218. Dr. Stephen Lunce, Faculty Senate president, will moderate the following topic presentations:

"Sexual Practices of Mexican-American Men and Women in the Border Region," Associate Profess of Psychology Dr. Todd Russell, Assistant Professor Dr. Susanna Perry and instructors Patricia Galvan and Bianca Spies.

"The Melting of Two Rare Gas Monalayers Physisorbed into Graphite: A Bond Orientational Approach," Assistant Professor of Physics, Dr. Michael Roth.

"Islamic Revivalism and the Quest for Political Power," Associate Professor of Political Science Dr. Nasser Momayezi."

"Curriculum and Cultural Relevance on the Border: or George and Alice meet Maricela," Assistant Professor of English Dr. Alicia Carroll.

"Correlates of Childhood Depression: Implications for School Counselors and Child Psychotherapists," Coordinator, Disabled Student Services, Debra Russell and Dr. Todd Russell.

Session II will take place in BH 219. Dr. Jeffrey Cass, Faculty Senate secretary, will moderate the following topic presentations:

"Fiction and Ironic Camouflage," Associate Professor of English, Dr. Faridoun Farrokh.

"International Law, Cuba and the United States of America," Professor of Political Science, Dr. Rafael Lecuona.

"The Influences of Personality on the Organization and Community Information Gathering Behaviors of Texas High School Principals," Assistant Professor of Educational Administration, Dr. Brigido Lopez.

"South Texas Hypertension Study," Instructor of Nursing Natalie Burkhalter.

Session III will take place in BH 220. Dr. Henry Smith, Faculty Senate parliamentarian, will moderate the following topic presentations:

"Rape Supportive Beliefs Among Mexican Americans," Dr. Susanna Perry.

"The Global Economy and Suburban Growth in a Northeastern Mexican City," Assistant Professor of Geography, Dr. Michael Yoder.

"Changes in the Structure of Economic Activity in the Laredo-Nuevo Laredo Borderplex, 1980-1990," Professor of Economics, Dr. Michael Patrick.

"China's Involvement in Laos During the Vietnam War," Assistant Professor of History, Dr. Xiamong Zhang.

"Case Study: ECE Student Teacher/First Year Teacher," Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Development, Dr. Linda Medearis.

A reception in the Great Room will follow the Second Annual Dean's Research Colloquium presentations.
