Texas A&M International University students who wish to volunteer to serve as Orientation Leaders for Spring 1997 have until 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 13 to submit applications to the University's Office of Student Development, located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building Room 159 West.

Orientation Leaders will represent the University to new students and their parents during the Spring `97 Orientation on January 7. To qualify to apply for the Orientation Leader positions, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher, be currently enrolled at A&M International for at least 12 hours, and be preregistered for Spring 1997. Interested students must attend one of three scheduled interest sessions and must submit a completed application form along with two letters of recommendation to the Office of Student Development by 5:00 p.m. November 13.

The interest sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, October 30 at 2:00 p.m. in Bullock Hall room 220; Tuesday, November 5 at 12:00 noon in Bullock Hall room 222; and Tuesday, November 12 at 2:00 p.m. in Bullock Hall room 220.

Students may register to attend any of the sessions by visiting the Office of Student Development. Qualified candidates will be interviewed in November. Students chosen as Orientation Leaders will receive intensive training on December 18 and 19. Spring Orientation is scheduled for January 7.

Gabriela Mendoza, Associate Director of Student Development at A&M International, said students who are enthusiastic, good communicators, and are actively involved in student organizations or University activities would make ideal Orientation Leaders. "The Orientation Leaders program is a wonderful opportunity for our students to enhance their interpersonal, public speaking, and project management skills," Mendoza said.

For additional information on the Orientation Leader program, contact Mendoza at 326-2280, or visit offices in Killam Library-Administration Building room 159 West. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.
