"Dusty" Fun Run, Walk Set Nov. 16 at A&M International

The Second Annual Texas A&M International University Fun Run and Walk benefiting student scholarships and alumni activities will take place Saturday, November 16 at 8:30 a.m. at the University's main campus, 5201 University Boulevard.

President J. Charles Jennett said the event offers the community a fun way to test their physical strength while helping the University to strengthen its student scholarship funds.

"This has emerged as one of our fun new traditions at the University. It gives people a chance to test their physical mettle in a competitive setting right here on campus. Whether they choose to walk or run, they're helping to support crucial scholarship funds," Dr. Jennett explained.

Jennett noted that 84% of A&M International University students utilize financial aid at some point in their University program.

Registration for the "Dusty" Fun Run and Walk is now underway. Entry forms are available at the Office for Advancement and External Affairs in room 262 of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building at A&M International University. Entry forms are also available at the University's Business Office and several businesses around town.

Cost per competitive entry is $15 for all events. Student fee is $5. All paid participants will receive an official "Dusty Fun Run and Walk" T-shirt. Registration and the fee payment can be conducted on site the day of the race.

Trophies will be awarded for the Top three Male and Female finishers in each category.

Categories will include 5 and 10K runs and 5K walk. Competing groups will include males under 21, males 21-29, males 30-39, males 40-49, and males 50-plus. Female competing groups will include under 21, 21-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50-plus.

As an added attraction, a "Dusty" Health Fair, sponsored by Mercy Regional Medical Center will be underway from 9:00 a.m. -12:00 noon, giving event participants and their families a chance to gauge their health status.

Prizes for the event will include four $100 gift certificates to the Follets Bookstore for college and high school contestants and trophies. All contestants will receive a "Dusty" Fun Run and Walk T-Shirt.
