Texas A&M International University recently hosted an all-day workshop for educators from Laredo Independent School District.

The workshop, "New Directions in Leadership," was sponsored jointly by A&M International and LISD. Topics addressed at the workshop included "Performance Instruction and Assessment," "Performance Based Principal Evaluations," "Portfolios and Performance: How to Begin," and "Portfolio Assessment."

Guest speakers were Dr. Carol Baker, Professor of Education at Northwest Missouri State University, and Ms. Sharon Strating, an instructor with the Horace Mann Lab School at Northwest Missouri State.

In attendance were members of the TAMIU Educational Principal's Academy, a group of leaders who work together to improve the educational opportunities of students whom they serve.

A&M International and LISD established the TAMIU Educational Principal's Academy this summer to effectively address the ever-growing educational needs of all students.

The group aims to improve the overall effectiveness of the instructional, operational, and management components of its member institutions through timely and pertinent workshops which focus on professional leadership renewal.
