Lecture at A&M International Focuses on Information Technology Nov. 21

An informative lecture on the human dimensions of information technology will be provided as part of the Distinguished Speaker Series at Texas A&M International University Thursday, Nov. 21, 1996 at 5 p.m. in Bullock Hall 101.

The lecture is presented by The Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade, the College of Business Administration and Graduate School of International Trade & Business Administration.

Dr. Lawrence L. Schkade, Ashbel Smith Professor of Information Systems at the University of Texas at Arlington will provide the lecture.

Dr. Schkade's presentation will include a consideration of information systems as sociotechnical systems. The impact of information systems and information technology on the nature of work, the shape of organizations, the economics of training will be explored, as will the global-human issues such as cultural issues, and what importance this is to information systems users and professionals.

Schkade holds a BBA in Industrial Management, an MBA, in Applied Statistics, a Ph.D., in Management Science and has completed post- doctoral fellowships at the University of Chicago, University of California at Berkeley; Ford Foundation Research Fellowship and the Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey.

A scholar in Information Systems and Management Sciences, he is author of over 30 books, book chapters and monographs and over 100 research articles.

Internationally recognized for his research on systems theory, human information processing, artificial intelligence, and computer disaster recovery, he is listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World and in 1996's Who's Who Among America's Teachers. A certified Computing Professional, he is a graduate of IBM's factory school for Maintenance Engineers.

The Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade is a consortium of four Texas universities promoting the study of trade between and among Western Hemispheric countries, in collaboration with the Customs Service of the United States Department of the Treasury.

Center-sponsored conferences and seminars, publications and statistical databases help businesses and other institutions meet challenges and seize opportunities in the Western Hemispheric economic arena.
