Texas A&M International To Honor Young Authors Tues., Nov. 5

Texas A&M International University's Office of Continuing Education will host a reception to honor young authors on Tuesday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the Great Room of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building (room 319).

To be honored at the reception are 38 local elementary students whose short stories were individually published into hardcover books.

Oscar J. Munoz, Director of Continuing Education at A&M International, said the young authors penned the literary works this summer for a Creative Writing course offered at the University through the Children's Summer Workshop. The course was taught by Lana Boyd.

"The stories the students created are primary works of fiction based on personal experiences. Some stories are funny, some are sad, some are scary but all are well written and creative," said Munoz.

In addition to writing the text, the young authors also wrote a dedication, provided information for an "About the Author" section, and created illustrations for their stories.

Some of the published books are on display in the lobby of the Killam Library.

"The book project exemplifies the rich, mind-expanding experiences afforded to participants of the Children's Summer Workshop," Munoz explained.

The 11th Annual Children's Summer Workshop for 1st - 6th graders and the 3rd Annual Summer Academy for 7th - 11th graders will be offered at A&M International this summer.
