Texas A&M International To Offer History Course In Zapata

Texas A&M International University will offer an American History course in Zapata during the Spring semester. The course, The US to 1877 (HIST 1301), will be taught at Zapata High School on Monday and Wednesday evenings, 6:00 - 7:15 p.m., from January 13 - May 10. Instructor for the course will be Dr. Peggy W. Hardman, A&M International Visiting Assistant Professor of History.

The course covers American history from discovery to Reconstruction. The "core curriculum" course is a requirement for all students pursuing a Bachelors degree at the University.

Interested persons may early register for the course during a special Early Registration session to be held at Zapata High School on Wednesday, November 20 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Persons may also early register for the course at A&M International's main campus, 5201 University Boulevard, weekdays through November 15.

Those who take advantage of Early Registration have until January 3 to pay tuition and fees for Spring 1997 courses.

Regular Spring 1997 Registration will be held January 8 - 9. Spring courses begin January 13.

Anyone who plans to enter Texas A&M International must comply with the University's admission procedures.

High school graduates who have 30 or fewer college credit hours must submit an Application for Undergraduate Admission, official high school or college transcripts, and official Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT) scores. Applicants who graduated from high school five or more years prior to the anticipated date of enrollment may opt to take the University administered COMPASS exam instead of the SAT or ACT.

Students who have earned more than 30 credit hours at another institution and wish to transfer to A&M International must submit an Application for Undergraduate Admission, official college transcripts, and proof of passing scores on the Texas Academic Skills Program (TASP) if the student began college in the Fall of 1989 or thereafter.

Qualified high school seniors in the 12th grade may enroll in the course and earn college credit by applying for Concurrent Admission. To qualify for Concurrent Admission, high school seniors must complete an Application for Concurrent Admission, have at least a 90 grade point average for all coursework completed in high school, and have written permission from their high school counselor or principal. Concurrently enrolled students may not register for more than six credit hours each regular semester or three hours each academic session.

A&M International`s admission policy also allows non-degree students to enroll in any course for enrichment or other purposes as long as the prerequisites are met or exceptions to these requirements are approved.

The University's Office of Admissions and Advisement is open from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, and 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
