A&M International Students Invited to Apply for $5,000 Udall Scholarship

Texas A&M International University students interested in a career related to environmental public policy are invited to apply for the Morris K. Udall Scholarship, an award which covers eligible expenses up to a maximum of $5,000 per year.

To be eligible, candidates must be a US citizen, resident alien, or US national; intend to pursue a career in environmental policy or be a Native American or Alaska Native and intend to pursue a career in health care or tribal public policy; be a current full-time sophomore or junior and a college junior or senior during the 1997-98 academic year; and must be pursing a baccalaureate degree.

Typical majors or areas of study include environmental engineering, the natural sciences, national resource management, the social sciences, and Native American public policy.

The candidates' plans of study should include course work in ethics and public policy conflict resolution and/or public or community service experience in the area of the candidates' career field.

Candidates must be nominated by A&M International to be considered for the scholarship.

Nomination forms and scholarship applications are available from Dr. Sushma Krishnamurthy, Assistant Professor of Biology at A&M International. Deadline for receipt of nomination is March 3, 1997. The Morris K. Udall Scholarship, which covers eligible expenses up to a maximum of $5,000 per year, will be awarded by the Udall Foundation in May of 1997.

Established by Congress in 1992 to honor Congressman Morris K. Udall and his legacy of public service, the Morris K. Udall Scholarship and Excellence in National Environmental Policy Foundation operates an educational scholarship program designed to provide opportunities for outstanding US students with excellent academic records and demonstrated interest in, and potential for, careers in the fields of environmental public policy, health care, and tribal public policy.
