A&M International Offers Scholarships for Spring

Texas A&M International University students who register for Spring semester courses at the University may apply for scholarships available in awards of up to $1,200.

Araceli S. Rangel, Director of Financial Aid at A&M International said the monies will be available to mid-term high school graduates as well as transfer and continuing students.

Coca Cola Freshmen scholarships will be available for students majoring in Arts & Humanities and Education. Awards will be $1,250 each.

"We also have six $750 scholarships available for students who have less than 30 hours and three scholarships that range in award from $250 to $500 for transfer, new, and continuing students," added Rangel.

To be considered for the scholarships, new freshmen students must be in the top 20% of their graduating class. Transfer and continuing students must have at least a 3.0 overall Grade Point Average (GPA) in order to be considered. Freshmen students who started school for the first-time in Summer Session 1996 or Fall 1996 must have at least a 2.5 GPA in order to be considered. All other freshmen students will be considered as continuing and must have a 3.0 overall GPA.

Deadline to apply for the scholarships is Friday, January 10.

Application forms and additional information may be obtained by visiting the University's Office of Financial Aid located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building room 155 West or by calling the office at 326-2225.
