A&M International's Intensive English Courses Begin Mar. 17

Texas A&M International University's International Language Institute will offer six intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) courses beginning March 17 at the University's main campus, 5201 University Boulevard.

The courses, which consist of 160 hours of class time and additional work in a multimedia lab, will be held Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., from March 17 - May 9. Courses emphasize grammar, reading, writing, and listening and speaking.

Tuition is $700 per course. Registration for the ESL courses will be held from March 3 - 7 in the International Language Institute offices located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building room 214 East. A late registration fee will be imposed after March 7.

The courses will be offered in six levels: ESL 101-Low Beginning, ESL 102-High Beginning, ESL 103-Low Intermediate, ESL 104-High Intermediate, ESL 105-Low Advanced, and ESL 106-High Advanced.

Beginning Level courses, ESL 101 and ESL 102, are designed for individuals who have no knowledge or very limited proficiency in the language. Listening and speaking skills, introductory reading, basic writing skills, and basic grammar structures are emphasized.

Intermediate Level courses, ESL 103 and ESL 104, are designed for individuals who have limited or some proficiency in the language. Development of listening skills, general academic reading, vocabulary development, paragraph writing and short expository writing, and fundamental grammar are emphasized.

Advanced Level courses, ESL 105 and ESL 106, are designed for individuals who have some proficiency in the language, but need further preparation for academic and professional work. The courses are ideal for persons who need to take the TOEFL Exam for entry into Texas A&M International University.

The TOEFL Exam will be administered at the University on April 18 and May 30.
