Middle Eastern Scholars to Meet at A&M International Friday, Saturday

Scholars on the Middle East will meet at Texas A&M International University this weekend for the Annual Conference of the Texas Association of Middle East Scholars.

The conference will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 28 and continue until 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 1. All activities will take place in Pellegrino Hall, part of the University's Phase II complex dedicated last week.

The Conference is open to the public and sponsored by A&M International's College of Arts & Humanities and the College of Business Administration.

The weekend program will include panel discussions with experts on a variety of topics including cultural and political aspects of life in the Middle East, literature in exile, environmental woes, and perspectives on Middle Eastern women.

In connection with the conference, an in-service workshop on the Middle East is also conducted for Laredo teachers on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is the second time the group has met in Laredo. The Association's 1993 meeting was also hosted by the University.
