A&M International Reminds Students of Upcoming Deadline

Texas A&M International University students who wish to apply for the $5,000 Morris K. Udall Scholarship must submit nomination forms and scholarship application by March 3 in order to be considered for the award.

Nomination forms and scholarship applications are available from Dr. Sushma Krishnamurthy, Assistant Professor of Biology at A&M International. Interested students may contact Dr. Krishnamurthy by visiting her office located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building room 435H or by calling her at 326-2584.

The Morris K. Udall Scholarship covers eligible expenses up to a maximum of $5,000 per year.

To be eligible for the award, candidates must be a US citizen, resident alien, or US national; intend to pursue a career in environmental policy or be a Native American or Alaska Native and intend to pursue a career in health care or tribal public policy; be a current full-time sophomore or junior and a college junior or senior during the 1997-98 academic year; and must be pursing a baccalaureate degree.

Typical majors or areas of study include environmental engineering, the natural sciences, national resource management, the social sciences, and Native American public policy.

The candidates' plans of study should include course work in ethics and public policy conflict resolution and/or public or community service experience in the area of the candidates' career field.

Candidates must be nominated by A&M International to be considered for the scholarship.

The scholarship will be awarded in May by the Morris K. Udall Scholarship and Excellence in National Environmental Policy Foundation.
