A&M International Offers Workshop On Hyperactive Children Mar. 24

Texas A&M International University's Office of Continuing Education will hold a workshop on "Parenting the Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder Child" on Monday, March 24 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. in Pellegrino Hall room 101 on the University's main campus, 5201 University Boulevard.

The workshop is geared for parents, teachers, child care providers, social workers, counselors, nurses, and persons who interact with children who have Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD).

Instructor will be Dr. Todd Russell, Associate Professor of Psychology at A&M International.

Tuition is $30 for individual participants or $40 for both parents. Registration deadline is March 20.

Workshop participants will learn the signs and symptoms of ADHD. Methods for identifying ADHD children and techniques for parenting children with this disorder will be described.

Participants will also learn behavior modification techniques for the management of the child's behavior at home, strategies for employing natural and logical consequences, and the use of encouragement to strengthen the child's self-esteem.

Emphasis will be placed on assisting parents in dealing effectively with the stress and anxiety associated with parenting the special child.
