Texas A&M International University students who have a grade point average of at least 2.0 and meet other requirements may apply for positions as Orientation Leaders for Summer 1997.

A&M International Orientation Leaders will represent the University to new students and their parents during the University's New Student Orientation in July and August. They will also conduct campus tours, create and perform a skit on campus life, and organize activities for the Orientation program.

Orientation Leader positions begin May 26 with a week of leadership training. Mandatory meetings are scheduled on Friday afternoons from June 6 - August 29 and New Student Orientation is scheduled for July 16, 26, and August 5, 13, and 26.

Interested students must submit an application and two recommendations from a faculty member or University administrator. Applications are available from the Office of Student Development, located in the Kinesiology and Convocation Center room 107. Application deadline is 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 16.

To qualify as an Orientation Leader, applicants must have at least a 2.0 grade point average, have completed at least 12 credit hours at A&M International, and be preregistered for the Fall 1997 semester.

Applicants must also attend one of three mandatory information sessions. The session will be held in Bullock Hall room 202 on Tuesday, April 8 at 12:00 noon; Friday, April 11, 12:00 noon; and Tuesday, April 15, 3:00 p.m.

Gabriela Mendoza, Associate Director of Student Development, said students who are enthusiastic, good communicators, and are actively involved in student organizations or University activities, would make ideal Orientation Leaders.

"The Orientation Leaders program is a wonderful opportunity for our students to enhance their interpersonal, public speaking, and project management skills," Mendoza said.

For more information on the A&M International Orientation Leaders, call Mendoza at the University's Office of Student Development, 326-2280, or visit offices in the Kinesiology and Convocation Center room 107.
