Application Deadline for Udall Scholarship Extended

The application deadline for the Morris K. Udall Scholarship has been extended to Thursday, April 17, announced Texas A&M International University officials.

A&M International students interested in a career related to environmental public policy are invited to apply for the Udall Scholarship, an award which covers eligible expenses up to a maximum of $5,000 per year.

To be eligible, candidates must be a US citizen, resident alien, or US national; intend to pursue a career in environmental policy or be a Native American or Alaska Native and intend to pursue a career in health care or tribal public policy; be a current full-time sophomore or junior and a college junior or senior during the 1997-98 academic year; and must be pursing a baccalaureate degree.

Typical majors or areas of study include environmental engineering, the natural sciences, national resource management, the social sciences, and Native American public policy.

The candidates' plans of study should include course work in ethics and public policy conflict resolution and/or public or community service experience in the area of the candidates' career field.

Candidates must be nominated by A&M International to be considered for the scholarship.

Nomination forms and scholarship applications are available from Dr. Sushma Krishnamurthy, Assistant Professor of Biology at A&M International. Interested students may contact Dr. Krishnamurthy by visiting her office located in the Canseco Hall room 313J or by calling her at 326-2584.
