Texas A&M International University's Office of Continuing Education is currently conducting registration for a two-day "Vertical Teams Conference" to be held Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12 from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the University's main campus, 5201 University Boulevard.

The conference, tailored to Advanced Placement (AP) teachers and administrators, is designed to help teams of teachers from middle and high schools develop an effective goals and strategies for the vertical team.

Tuition is $150 per participant. Registration deadline is April 4. Registrations received after the deadline will be accepted only on a space available basis and will be subject to a $20 late registration fee.

The conference will offer a review of the College Board Vertical Teams Text. The Text demonstrates strategies that are useful in working with AP objectives at the various grade levels. Sets of goals and objectives will be formulated for vertical teams.

The concept of vertical teams incorporates the idea that Advanced Placement should not be isolated courses taught to a few students, but rather a planned program of teaching skills and concepts over several years, and that a planned program is best achieved by the vertical cooperation of teachers working together to coordinate their efforts.

At the conference's conclusion, each participant will have goals and objectives for the vertical team, a curricular unit, original multiple choice questions for English, original essay prompts for English, course contracts for students and parents.

To register for the "Vertical Teams Conference" or for more information, please call the University's Office of Continuing Education at 326-2700, or visit offices in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building Room 332 West.

Office hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.
