A&M International Student Receives AITP Scholarship

Texas A&M International University student Carlos Gil Jr. has been named recipient of the 1997 Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) Scholarship.

Gil received the $500 scholarship and a plaque during a brief ceremony held at the University. The ceremony was attended by Gil's classmates, faculty from the University's College of Business Administration, and Kevin Jetton, President of the AITP Region 3 Chapter.

Gil, a 1993 graduate of United High School, is majoring in Computer Information Systems. He is the son of Carlos and Grizelda Gil.

He is a member of the University's Student Systems Group (SSG), a student organization which strives to link the academic and business world through affiliations with professional information resource management associations like the AITP.

The AITP is a premier organization for computer information systems professionals and managers.

In 1995 and 1996, members of the University's Student Systems Group participated in AITP regional and national student conferences and competitions. Regional and national competition included COBOL, C++, and Visual Basic programming.

SSG members will attend the AITP Region 3 Student Conference in Houston at the end of October.
