A paper authored by Texas A&M International University Assistant Professor of Sociology Dr. Cecilia Garza has been published in Race, Gender & Class, an internationally known journal of Queens College's Michael Harrington Center.

The paper, "Foreign Domestics: The Use and Abuse of Undocumented Household Workers," presents an insight into the lives and intricacies of the otherwise invisible population of domestic workers. The interaction of race, class, and gender are analyzed and case histories are presented to illustrate the effect of economic need.

In her paper, Garza suggests that the occupation of domestics along the US-Mexico border is entrenched in a larger system of mutual self interest where individuals and corporations can benefit, while others may become its victim.

Prior to being submitted for publication, the paper was reviewed by Garza's colleague, Dr. Michael Yoder, Assistant Professor of Geography at A&M International.

Garza holds a PhD in Sociology from Texas A&M University. Her MA and BA in Sociology were earned from Texas A&I University and the University of Texas, respectively. She is a State of Texas Licensed Master Social Worker.
