A&M International Slates "Internet for School Librarians" Workshop

Texas A&M International University's Office of Continuing Education will offer a one-day workshop on "Internet for School Librarians" on Friday, April 18 from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the University's main campus, 5201 University Boulevard.

The workshop will be conducted by Kenney Mencher, Assistant Professor of Fine Arts at A&M International, and Rogelio Hinojosa, Acquisitions Librarian with the University's Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library.

Tuition is $75.

The workshop will provide school librarians with training on getting the most out of the Internet, or World Wide Web, for professional activities and services. Participants will have hands-on training in the University's computer lab, where Web pages will be accessed, and practical exercises will be assigned. The workshop will also include a basic description of using electronic mail.

Topics to be covered include basic Internet terminology, the evolution of publishing and information industries on the Internet, finding information on the Internet, using the Internet for cataloging and acquisitions, Internet applications for public service areas of school libraries, and using the Internet for continuing professional education and professional development.
