April 13-19 Books National Library Week at A&M International
You might say activities are well-booked for the week of April 13- 19 at Texas A&M International University with the observance by the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library of National Library Week.
The annual observance is designed to encourage citizens to visit their libraries and reacquaint themselves with the diverse array of resources available to them. Services at A&M International's library range from Internet access and interlibrary loans to microfiche files and special collections.
The key event for the A&M international observance will be an Open House on Tuesday April 15 that the public is encouraged to attend. Tours of the library's facilities will also be available.
A special brown bag poetry reading at 12 noon will be held in the Great Room and emceed by Killam Library director Rodney Webb. Members of the University faculty, staff and student body are scheduled to share their own works and those of favorite authors.
Director Webb said the Library is also encouraging citizens to take advantage of the week-long observance to avail themselves of library resources and services.
"While our principal user group remains our students and faculty, our library has a strong public service component and we have a number of programs that the general public can access to make full use of our facilities," Webb said.
He singled out the Killam Library's community card, educator courtesy card and A&M International alumni provisions as examples.
"Our community card is available to anyone over 18 years of age and allows the bearer to check out five books for two weeks for a year-long period. The cost is $25.00. The Educator Courtesy Card is available at no cost to educators, counselors or administrators employed by the Laredo Independent School District, United Independent School District, Webb Consolidated School District, Zapata Independent School District, Laredo Christian Academy, United Day School, St. Augustine, or other local parochial schools.
"Current members of the University's Alumni Association have only to present their alumni card to use the library's facilities and check out books," he said.
Webb said community members are always welcome to utilize the Killam Library and its vast computer resources, including Internet access as space permits.
"While our primary focus is on students, we have considerable lab space available for members of the community at large to utilize our computer resources, and welcome their accessing these services," he said.

Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM to 10:00 PM
Friday 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Saturday 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM
Sunday 12:00 Noon to 8:00 PM
