Mathematics and physics faculty from Texas A&M International University's College of Science and Technology, Department of Natural Sciences, presented a half-day workshop at the Instituto Tecnologico de Nuevo Laredo recently.

Dr. Juan Homero Hinojosa, Department Chair, said the outreach effort was the first in a planned series of future interactions.

"Our faculty was delighted to meet with our Nuevo Laredo colleagues and share current faculty research with them. We see this as an initial offering in a planned series of collaborations," Dr. Hinojosa said.

"We envision a strong relationship between our two institutions and are especially encouraged by the interest expressed by both ITNL's faculty and students in our planned M.S. in Mathematics that is under development at A&M International," Hinojosa continued.

Presenters at the workshop included Dr. Hinojosa, who spoke on the "Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations," Dr. Terrance Quinn, "Geometry of Systems of Partial Differential Equations;" Dr. Sanjay Rai, "Qualitative Theory of Some Differential Equations Arising in Applications;" Dr. Robert Robertson, "Inverse Problems in Elasticity," and Dr. Mike Roth, "Topics in Condensed Matter."

The visit was facilitated by Miguel San Miguel, a ITNL faculty member and current graduate student at A&M International.

University faculty members were also provided a tour of the ITNL facilities.
