A&M International Offers Cheerleading Camp June 16 - 19

Texas A&M International University's Office of Continuing Education, in conjunction with the American Spirit and Dance Alliance (ASDA), will offer a Cheerleading Camp June 16 - 19 at the University's main campus, 5201 University Boulevard.

Registration fee is $109 for students, $89 for coaches and advisors. Fee includes dinner on June 16 and lunch and dinner June 17 -18.

The Cheerleading Camp provides comprehensive training on the mechanics of team presentative, with emphasis on improving each individual's abilities, confidence, and leadership skills.

The first day of the Cheerleading Camp begins with a Performance Review for which squads perform a home cheer or dance performance. Squads will then receive written critiques and awards will be given for excellence in creativity, perfection, technique, and spirit.

Other scheduled activities for the Cheerleading Camp are as follows: Game Plan -- the basics of crowd control and game situations through simulations designed to create fast thinking abilities. Motion Mania -- creative cheer motions, hip dance moves, intricate stunts and formations. Pep Talk -- fun, entertaining ways to motivate and involve students in fast-paced pep rallies. Survivor Spirit -- lessons plans for productive squad practices, motivational games, team exercises for the body and brain, administrative tips, team management, and effective fundraisers. Jump Into Fun -- proper jumping techniques, execute leg exercises and jump drills to improve flexibility and strength. Showcase -- daily noncompetitive performances during which each squad will demonstrate their talents. Squads will receive written critiques on teamwork, crowd response, and participation. Stunt Mania -- the basics of safe, terrific stunts. Marvelous Mascots -- crowd leadership skills, entertaining moves, skills to raise crowd energy levels and make the mascot a integral part of school pride.
