University Offers Concurrent Enrollment For High School Seniors

Qualified high school seniors who wish to get a head start on their higher education may enroll for University-level courses at Texas A&M International University while still in high school through the University's Concurrent Enrollment program.

Concurrently enrolled high school seniors may register for up to six credit hours each regular semester or three hours each summer school session, explained Maria R. Rosillo, Director of Admissions at A&M International.

"Concurrent enrollment affords high school seniors an excellent opportunity to gain University-level credit and acclimate themselves to University life. And because A&M International offers a wide selection of both day and evening classes, it is easy for students to find a class or two that fits their schedules," said Rosillo.

To be concurrently enrolled, high school seniors must complete the application process, submit an official high school transcript and a schedule of high school classes for current and subsequent semesters, have at least a 90 percent grade average, and have written permission from their high school principal or counselor.

Applicants who have taken the Texas Assessment Skills Program Test (TASP) must have passed all sections of the Test to be eligible for concurrent enrollment.

Students accepted for Concurrent Enrollment must maintain normal University-level progress of 2.0 grade point average or better in order to continue in subsequent semesters.

Deadline to apply for Concurrent Enrollment for Fall is August 22.

Fall semester courses at A&M International begin Sept. 1.

Applications should be submitted to Lisa M. Bennett, Admissions Counselor, in the Office of Admissions located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building Room 155 West. Bennett advises and registers all high school students accepted for concurrent enrollment.

"The University's Concurrent Enrollment affords high school seniors an educational experience which will be highly valued in today's global environment. A&M International is one of the State's most technologically advanced new four-year universities and we hope local and area students will take advantage of the educational opportunities offered here," said Rosillo.
