Parents Day Scheduled for A&M International Summer Programs

Some of the youngest students ever seen on the Texas A&M International University campus will have a chance to showcase their summer of learning as part of a Parents Day that will celebrate summer children's programming.

Ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, July 19 from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. in the Great Room of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library, Room 319. The University's three summer programs Kinder Camp, Children's Summer Workshop and the Summer Academy for teenagers, will be honored.

Dr. Larry Boyd, provost and vice president for academic affairs at A&M International will welcome parents and friends to the event which will include a a variety of presentations:

*Charm and etiquette students will present a modeling show.

*A cheerleading group will perform new routines.

*Book drafts by child authors will be available.

*sketches and drawings and sculpture by art students will be displayed.

*Student home pages on the World Wide Web will be viewable

and bugs collected by students as part of their science study will be shown. The University's summer programming for children continues to grow in popularity with 226 participants this year ranging from 4-18 years of age. The enrichment programs are coordinated by the Office of Continuing Education featuring University faculty and select local educators.

Next in summer programming at the University will be a basketball camp scheduled July 21-25. Registration will be held on Sunday, July 20 from 10 a.m. till noon at the Kinesiology/Convocation Building located at the East rear of the campus in the Phase II section.
