A&M International's Continuing Ed. Offering Computer Courses

Texas A&M International University's Office of Continuing Education will offer a one-day "Introduction to Windows '95" course on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. in Building C room 114.

The hands-on course is designed for individuals who have some computer experience. Topics include understanding, navigating, and arranging the Desktop, identifying window components, multimedia, plug-n-play, Windows E xplorer and customizing Windows to meet individual needs.

Tuition is $75. Interested persons may register for the course in the University's Office of Continuing Education located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building room 332 West.

Other low-cost computer courses to be offered by the Office of Continuing Education in October and November include:

Introduction to Personal Computers -- Saturday, Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in Pellegrino Hall room 221. Tuition is $35. The course will cover basic computer operations, including the basics of the keyboard and system devices. Through hands-on exercises, participants will learn to open and close files and operate several programs simultaneously, saving and deleting, and care and maintenance of the personal computer for optimum usage.

Discovering the Internet -- Saturday, Oct. 11, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., Building C room 114. Tuition is $75. The one-day hands-on course will introduce participants who have basic computer skills to the wide range of resources available on the Internet. Electronic mail, multiple indexes, bulletin boards, news groups, national information services, discussion groups, and on-line services are among the topics to be covered.

Introduction to Excel --Saturday, Oct. 18, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Pellegrino Hall room 219. Tuition is $75. The introductory course for the spreadsheet software Excel will cover entering information onto a spreadsheet, entering formulas to manipulate data, and formatting it into an aesthetic output. Participants do not need prior knowledge of Excel or computers.

Introduction to Macintosh Basics -- Saturday, Oct. 18, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. in Building C room 117. Tuition is $35. The comprehensive introductory course will provide hands-on instruction on basic operational functions such as opening and closing flies, retrieving and saving information, and opening and searching several programs. Basic maintenance for the personal computer will also be discussed.

Introduction to WordPerfect -- Saturday, Nov. 1, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. in Building C room 113. Tuition is $75. Designed to benefit persons who create and format documents and publications utilizing a variety of styles, the course will offer participants an opportunity to practice using TextArt, Tables, and Graphics. The course includes a review of merging letters and printing envelopes and labels.

Introduction to Microsoft Power Point -- Saturday, Oct. 11, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. in Pellegrino Hall room 219. Tuition is $75. This is an introductory course and will explain how Power Point functions and integrates all of information from graphs, text, clipart, video, audio and telecommunications presentations. Participants need no prior knowledge of Power Point.
