A petition by Texas A&M International University's College of Business Administration to establish a chapter of Sigma Beta Delta, the Honor Society for Business, Management and Administration, has been approved.

Sigma Beta Delta is a faculty-driven organization which provides faculty with an opportunity to recognize outstanding College of Business Administration students, said Dr. Khosrow Fatemi, Dean of A&M International's College of Business Administration.

"This is an important step in the growth of the College of Business Administration and an important barometer of program excellence. Sigma Beta Delta is the pre-eminent business honor society and we believe our students and faculty will be well-served by its presence here at A&M International," Dr. Fatemi said.

To be eligible for lifetime membership and national recognition, students must rank in the upper 20 percent of the class. Sigma Beta Delta currently has 96 chapters in 34 states.

Principles of the Society include wisdom, honor and the pursuit of meaningful aspirations. The Society recognizes these three qualities as being important for success in the academic realm as well as providing guidelines leading to a fulfilling personal and professional life distinguished by honorable service to humankind.

Faculty officers for the new chapter include: Dr. Kurt Jesswein, associate professor of finance, president; Dr. Henry Smith, assistant professor of accounting, vice-president; and Dr. Stephen Lunce, associate professor of information systems, secretary-treasurer and faculty advisor.

The chapter will soon host an installation ceremony and induct its charter group of student members.
