A&M International Honors Two Outstanding Employees
Two Texas A&M International University employees, Fortunato Mireles and Phillip J. Lane, have been selected as recipients of the University's Outstanding Employee Service Award for 1996-1997.
A&M International President Dr. J. Charles Jennett announced the selection at a recent employee luncheon held in the University's Great Room.
Dr. Jennett praised both recipients for their exceptional job performance and exemplary service to the University.
Mireles, named Outstanding Classified Employee, is Audio Visuals Assistant in the Computer and Telecommunications Services department. He joined the University in 1994 as a clerk in the University's Learning Resource Center and was promoted to his current position in 1995.
Lane, Outstanding Administrative Employee, is Assistant to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. He joined the University in 1979. Before attaining his present position, Lane served as the Assistant Director and then Director of the Institute for International Trade, and as Director of the Texas Center for Border Economic and Enterprise Development. He also previously served as the University's foreign student advisor and housing director.
Mireles and Lane each received a commemorative plaque, a monetary award, and an honorary designated parking space for one year.
Nominations for the Outstanding Employee Service Award were submitted by University employees. A Selection Committee comprised of recipients of the 1993-94, 1994-95, and 1995-96 Outstanding Employee Service Award made final selections based on job performance, outstanding achievements, special qualities, and other criteria.
Selection Committee members included Elizabeth N. Martinez, Veronica Martinez, Laura Moran-Lopez, Ricardo Ortegon, Dr. Sanjay Rai, Dr. Rosa Maria Vida, and Susan E. W. Nichols, committee chair.
