A&M International Hosts Cross Country Invitational Sat., Sept. 13

Over 400 middle and high school athletes from Laredo and the surrounding area will compete in the Texas A&M International University Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, September 13.

The Cross Country Invitational will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning at A&M International's main campus, 5201 University Boulevard.

Boys and Girls Freshmen, Middle School, Junior Varsity and Varsity cross country teams from local and area schools are scheduled to complete in the Invitational.

Participating schools include Alexander High School, Asherton High School, Bruni High School, Cigarroa High School, Martin High School, Nixon High School, San Agustin High School, United High School, and United South High School.

Race times are as follows: Middle School Girls and Middle School Boys, 9:30 a.m.; Varsity Boys, 10 a.m.; Varsity Girls, 10:30 a.m.; Freshmen Girls and Freshmen Boys, 11:10 a.m.; Junior Varsity Girls, 11:50 a.m.; and Junior Varsity Boys, 12:20 p.m.

Races for Junior Varsity Boys and Varsity Boys are 3 miles. All other races are 2 miles.

An award ceremony will be held after the final race. In the Varsity division awards will be presented to the top 2 teams and top 10 individuals. In Freshmen, Middle School, and Junior Varsity divisions awards will be presented to 1st place teams and top five individuals from each division.

Entry fee is $60 per team or $10 per individual. Teams must be comprised of at least 5 members. Schools that enter a Varsity team may enter a Junior Varsity, Freshmen, or Middle School team for no charge.

Proceeds will benefit the Texas A&M International University Explorer Post, an organization comprised of young men and women age 15 - 21 interested in law enforcement and community service.
