"Dusty" Fun Run, Walk Set Nov. 15 at A&M International

Registration is underway for the Third Annual Texas A&M International University "Dusty Fun Run and Walk" benefiting student scholarships and alumni activities.

The event, which features competitive 5K and 10K Runs, a non-competitive 5K Fun Walk and 1 Mile Children's Walk, will be held on Saturday, November 15 at 8:30 a.m. at the University's main campus, 5201 University Boulevard.

President Charles Jennett said the event offers the community a fun way to test their physical strength while helping the University to strengthen its student scholarship funds.

"This has emerged as one of our fun new traditions at the University. It gives people a chance to test their physical mettle in a competitive setting right here on campus. Whether they choose to walk or run, they're helping to support crucial scholarship funds," Dr. Jennett explained.

Eighty-four percent of A&M International University students utilize financial aid at some point in their University program.

Entry fee for the 5K and 10K events is $15 per event. Student entry fee and senior citizen entry fee is $5. Paid participants will receive an official "Dusty Fun Run and Walk" T-shirt.

Entry fee for the Children's 1 Mile Walk is $2, or $5 to enter the event plus receive an official "Dusty Fun Run and Walk" T-shirt.

Registration forms are available at the University's Office for Advancement and External Affairs located in room 262 of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library-Administration Building. Registration forms are also available at the University's Business Office and several businesses around town.

Registration and the fee payment may be conducted on site the day of the race beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Trophies, gift certificates, and door prizes will be awarded.

Trophies will be awarded for the top three Male and Female finishers in each competitive category in the 5K and 10K runs.

Competitive catagories for the 5K and 10K runs include males under 21, males 21-29, males 30-39, males 40-49, and males 50-plus, and females under 21, 21-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50-plus.

Top college and high school competitors in the 5K and 10K runs will also receive $100 gift certificates from Folletts Bookstore.

Falcon National Bank, NBC Bank, and Folletts Bookstore are sponsors for the event.
