The Texas Center for Border Economic and Enterprise Development at Texas A&M International University will host a one-day seminar for Freight Forwarders and US Customhouse Brokers on Wednesday, Oct. 29 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in Pellegrino Hall room 101 on the University's main campus, 5201 University Boulevard.

The seminar will provide information on the changes in the registration process of Freight Forwarders that have resulted from the ICC Termination Act, Public Law 104-88 and House Bill 1487.

Under the ICC Termination Act, a freight forwarder is now a carrier and thus needs operating authority in order to do business. Anyone who receives, stores, breaks bulk, warehouses and uses interstate, foreign or drayage motor carriers may be considered a freight forwarder.

Lawyers from both Mexico and the United States will present information at the seminar and will be available to answer questions about the changes in federal and state laws.

Cost for the seminar is $150 per person. Interested persons may pre-register for the seminar by calling the Texas Center at (956) 326-256 or (956) 326-2545, or by emailing Texas Center Director Duane Burdorf at dburdorf@tamiu.edu.

Seminar registration will also be held on the day of the event from 8 - 8:30 a.m. in Pellegrino Hall, however, because seating is limited, pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

For more information on the Freight Forwarding Seminar Oct. 29, please call the University's Texas Center at (956) 326-2546 or (956) 326-2545. Office hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Information is also available on the World Wide Web through the Texas Center's section of the University's home page, http://www.tamiu.edu/coba/bti.
