Texas A&M International University is offering two continuing education classes in self defense, one designed specifically for women, another designed for families.

"Self Defense for Women" will be held on Saturday, December 6 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the University's main campus, 5201 University Boulevard, in the Kinesiology/Convocation Building. Tuition is $20 per person. The class features both common sense instruction on avoiding dangerous situations plus expert demonstrations on ways to fend off physical attacks and deal with assault situations. Participants will practice self defense techniques and should therefore be prepared to engage in physical activity. Instructor will be Juan Martinez, Chief of the Laredo Police Department.

"Self Defense for the Family" will be held on Saturday, December 6 from 2 - 6 p.m. in the Kinesiology/Convocation Building. Tuition is $50 per family. Moms, dads, and kids will learn simple and effective techniques to maximize their individual strengths and abilities to fend off assailants, even if the assailants are larger or stronger. Family members will receive separate instruction. Self defense expert Anthony Winterroth will be instructor for the class.
