University Plans Homecoming Salute to Teachers Nov. 21

The final event of Texas A&M International University's Homecoming Celebration 1997 will be a salute to teachers who have earned degrees at the University.

The event will take place Friday (Nov. 21) at a reception in the Great Room of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library at 7 p.m. The event is co-sponsored by the University's College of Education and the Texas A&M International University Alumni Association.

A keynote address will be provided by Dr. Fred Lunenburg, Professor and Senior Research Analyst at the Center for Research and Doctoral Studies in Educational Leadership at Sam Houston State University.

Dr. Charles Jennett, University president, said the Homecoming Celebration offers the University an opportunity to recognize the continuing role of University graduates in the life of the University and the community.

"Each Fall, our University celebrates the important role of its alumni and former students in the continued life of the University. We especially like to showcase those individuals who continue to play an influential role in the communities we proudly serve," he explained.

Sue Nichols, Alumni Association president, said that this year's Homecoming Celebration focus is on the many teaching professionals who have earned degrees from the University.

"At each Homecoming, we try to recognize the efforts of our alumni. This year we chose to honor the teaching professionals in our local and private schools who have earned their degrees from Texas A&I University at Laredo, Laredo State University or Texas A&M International University," Nichols said.

Dr. Lunenburg is a former professor of education and dean of the College of Education at Southern Utah University. He is the author of more than 50 publications on schools as organizations and on psychological and sociological aspects of educational administration.

In 1986, he received the Donatelli Award for Research. He is the author of "Pupil Control in Schools: Individual and Organizational Correlates " (1984) and "The Principalship: Concepts and Applications" (1995).

He is a consultant to private and public sector organizations and conducts workshops on organizational behavior in the United States and abroad.
