University's Continuing Ed. Offers Computer Courses

Texas A&M International University's Office of Continuing Education is conducting registration for the following low-cost computer courses:

Accounting with QuickBooks -- offered Saturday, January 31 from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., with the course offered again on March 21, April 25, and June 20. Tuition is $75. The course teaches participants how to manage their business with QuickBooks.

Introduction to Personal Computers -- Tuesday and Thursday, February 24 and 26 from 6 - 8 p.m., or Saturday, April 18 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Tuition is $35. The course covers DOS, Windows, basic word processing spreadsheets, and databases. Printers, modems, virus protection, and backup systems are also discussed.

Discovering the Internet -- Saturday, February 28, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., with the course repeated on April 11 and June 6. Tuition is $75. The hands-on course introduces participants who have basic computer skills to the wide range of resources available on the Internet. Electronic mail, multiple indexes, bulletin boards, news groups, national information services, discussion groups, and on-line services are among the topics to be covered.

Microsoft Office -- Mondays and Wednesdays, February 23 and 25 and March 2 and 4, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., with the course repeated as two Saturdays sessions on March 21 and 28, from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Tuition is $120. Course participants will learn how to use Word for documentation, Excel for accounting or finance, Powerpoint for graphic presentations, and Access for unlimited file management, reports, tables, and forms.

Introduction to the Macintosh Operating System -- Tuesday and Thursday, February 10 and 12 from 6 - 8 p.m., or Saturday, April 4 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Tuition is $35. The comprehensive introductory course provides hands-on instruction on word processing, spreadsheets, databases, drawing programs, and trouble shooting techniques. Components, assembly, and hardware and software operations are also discussed.

Introduction to WordPerfect -- Saturday, April 4, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuition is $75. Designed to benefit persons who utilize a variety of styles to create and format documents and publications, the course offers instruction on using TextArt, Tables, and Graphics to enhance letters and publications.
