A&M International HR Director Selected to Leadership Texas Class of 1998

Texas A&M International University's Director of Human Resources, Elizabeth N. Martinez, has been selected as a member of the Class of 1998 of LeadershipTexas.

Martinez was notified of her selection by Candace O'Keefe, Executive Director of Leaderhip Texas.

Leadership Texas is a program of the Foundation for Women's Resources of Austin. Selection for membership is competitive and participants represent a diverse cross-section of Texas women from the public, private and volunteer sectors of leadership.

Joe Garcia, Vice President for Finance and Administration at A&M International, said Martinez1 selection is a testament to her leadership skills.

"Ms. Martinez is a true professional who continues to contribute greatly to the overall success of the University. Her leadership on our rapidly growing campus is delivered in her primary service as our HR director and also in a number of internal and state-level committee appointments. We commend her on her selection and look forward to her continued success," he said.

Martinez said she is honored by her selection and looking forward to the 1998 Leadership sessions.

"Through participation in Leadership Texas, I believe I will gain a broader understanding of the needs of the State of Texas which I truly believe has made an investment in me. With this experience, I hope to be able to return that investment," Martinez said.

Martinez began her career with the then-Laredo State University in1980 after completing her BBA from the University and has served as the University's Director of Human Resources since 1987.

In 1994, she received the University's Outstanding Employee Service Award for Administrative Staff. She serves on a number of University and Texas A&M University System committees and is chair of the System Employees Benefits Advisory Committee.

Martinez recently earned certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) from the Human Resources Certification Institute (HCRI) and is currently in progress on a Masters in Political Science at A&M International.

She is beginning her second term as president of the Laredo Association of Human Resources Management (LAHRM) and is a former president of the University's Alumni Association.

She is married to Mario E. Martinez, local rancher and retailer. The couple have two children, twins Rebecca and Mario Jr.

Leadership Texas will begin the first of its planned five session for 1998 Feb. 18-20 in Austin.
