Texas A&M International University students, staff, and faculty are invited to participate in Three-Point and Free-Throw intramural basketball contests to be held at the University on Wednesday, March 4 at 5 p.m. in the Kinesiology/Convocation Building.

Participants in the Three-Point contest will each have 1 minute to sink as many shots as possible. Prizes will be awarded for First, Second, and Third place in both men's and women's divisions.

Participants in the Free-Throw contest will each have 30 shot attempts. First, Second, and Third place prizes in men's and women's divisions will be awarded.

Prizes will also be awarded to overall winners in both divisions. Overall winners will be determined by combined scores from the Three-Point and Free-Throw contests.

Members of the University community who wish to participate in the intramural basketball contests should sign up with the University's Recreational Sports office, located in the Kinesiology/Convocation Building room 107, by Tuesday, March 3.

Clara Sandoval, Associate Director of Recreational Sports at A&M International, said the basketball contests are a predecessor for the University's new intramural basket league.

"The University will begin an intramural basketball league on March 25. This new intramural league will feature men's, women's and co-ed competition," she explained.

Sandoval organized the intramural basketball league and is currently developing other intramural sports programs for the University. Upcoming intramural programs include volleyball, table tennis, badminton, indoor soccer, and pickle ball.
