A&M International Students Attend Conference in Monterrey

Eleven members of the International Business Association, a student organization at Texas A&M International University, traveled to Mexico for a conference on international business held at the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM).

Attended the conference were A&M International students Nieves Alvarez, Sandra Benavides, Virginie Bermejo, Jose Carranza, Miguel Garcia, Abu Muhammad Imtiaz, Michael Kowalski, Adamo Pesce, Abraham Rivera, Nelly Uribe, and Eliezer Villarreal. The students were accompanied by Dr. George Kostopoulos, professor of Information Systems at A&M International.

The A&M International group attended presentations on market diversity, politics and business management in the new millennium, and the MERCOSUR, an economic integration project among Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.

The presentation on the new millennium was given by the governor of the State of Guanajuato, Vicente Fox Quesada, who many believe will be Mexico's next president.

The A&M International students also toured the ITESM campus and explored the prestigious institution's "Virtual University."

Founded in 1943 by a group of Mexican businessmen, the ITESM is a private institution with 26 campuses in Mexico, a student enrollment of nearly 70,000 and a faculty of 5,700. ITESM universities are linked by a telecommunication network that includes over 15,000 computers. The "Virtual University" provides classes via satellite for institutions in Mexico, and Central and South America.
