Texas A&M International University is seeking course proposals from educators and professionals who have innovative ideas on teaching exciting summer courses for students from preschool through high school.

Oscar J. Muñoz, Continuing Education Director at A&M International, explained the University will offer three mind-expanding programs weekdays from June 29 - July 24. The programs are the Kinder Camp, for 4- and 5-year-old preschoolers, the Summer Children's Workshop, for 1st - 6th graders, and Summer Academy, for 7th - 11th graders.

Creative, energetic persons who are interested in teaching in any one of the four-week programs should submit course proposals to the University's Office of Continuing Education located in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library, room 332. Course proposals may also be submitted via email at ojmunoz@tamiu.edu.

Submitted proposals should include the following: a course outline, detailed lesson plans, and material lists with cost estimates. A current resume should also be submitted.

Muñoz noted that course proposals should adhere to the program's philosophy and comply with the program's structure.

"The philosophy of our summer programs is to provide young people with fun, eye-opening, rich learning experiences. Our unique course offerings capitalize on the amenities our state-of-the-art campus affords us, such as our computer labs with Internet access, science and chemistry labs, a new physical education complex, and spacious grounds," he explained.

The Kinder Camp and Children's Summer Workshop are offered in the mornings, from 8:30 a.m. - 12 noon. Kinder Camp is centered on fun activities which teach math, science, reading, and music in a nurturing, supportive environment. A theme of "water" should be incorporated in all Kinder Camp course proposals.

Children's Summer Workshop courses are offered in 1-hour format in three grade level groupings, 1st - 2nd grades, 3rd - 4th grades, and 5th - 6th grades. Course proposals for the Children's Summer Workshop should include lesson plans for all three grade groups.

Past course offerings for the Summer Children's Workshop include beginning computers, arts and crafts, math and science, theater arts, children's literature, music, and cooperative sports.

The Summer Academy, for teenages in grades 7th - 11th, will be held in the afternoons from 12 noon - 5 p.m. Courses are offered in 1-hour sessions for two grade groups, 7th - 8th and 9th - 11th. Summer Academy course proposals should include lesson plans for both grade groups.

Past course offerings for the Summer Academy include Internet exploration, sculpture, computer training, forensics, hypnosis, environmental analysis, library science, parapsychology, and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) preparation in math and English.
