Texas A&M International University's fledging dance team, the High Twisters, is looking for a few high-spirited, energetic students to join their ranks.

The dance team, which was established in October of 1997, will hold auditions in April, said High Twisters sponsor Araceli S. Rangel.

"We currently have fourteen talented A&M International students on the team but would welcome the addition of new members," said Rangel.

A&M International students who wish to audition for the dance team must meet the following qualifications: be currently enrolled at A&M International at least half-time, have 1 year of varsity cheerleading or dance experience, and must not have been professional dancers.

Students who are accepted into the High Twisters Dance Team must pay a membership fee of $10 per month, perform 10 hours of community service each semester, and participate in monthly fundraising activities.

Current High Twisters members include: Vicky Bustamante, Gabriela Cavazos, Elisa Cuellar, Anna Diaz, Claudia Duran, Miriam Fernandez, Claudia Flores, Vanessa Garcia, Adriana E. Juarez, Yanira Marquez, Clarissa Rangel, Jeannette Ramirez, Ailed Rodriguez, and Gina M. Salinas.

The High Twisters made their debut performance last November during the University's annual Dusty Fun Run and Walk. The dance team performed during the halftime show of a United High School basketball game and participated in the Washington's Birthday Youth Parade. The High Twisters also assisted at the Laredo College Night, the Azteca Halloween Carnival, the H-E-B Thanksgiving Feast of Sharing, and the University's Orientation Program.

The High Twisters have also participated in a number of community service projects. In December, the team sponsored an "Angel Tree" project and collected Christmas presents for pre-kinder students from United DD Hachar Elementary School and JC Martin Elementary School.

University students who wish to audition for the A&M International High Twisters Dance Team should contact dance team sponsor Araceli S. Rangel at 326-2225.

University office hours are from 8 .m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
