The Progressive Alliance of Texas A&M International University, a student organization, invites all those interested to attend a forum on March 17 titled "Progressive Perspectives on the Militarization of the Border."

The event is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in Pellegrino Hall 101, and is open to the public. Those who attend the forum are also invited to participate in the question and answer session following short presentations by three panelists.

Participating panelists will be Dr. Jim Earhart, a professor in the Biology Department of Laredo Community College; José Salvador Tellez, an immigration attorney; and Alfonso "Poncho" Casso, Laredo City Council member.

The Progressive Alliance, a chartered student organization, addresses social and environmental issues facing the border community. The group has established and maintains a monthly food drive on campus that benefits the Laredo Regional Food Bank and a newspaper recycling program that benefits the Laredo Animal Shelter.

For more information, please call Dr. Michael Yoder, Progressive Alliance faculty sponsor, at 326-2634. University office hours are 8 a.m. 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The University will be closed March 12-13 for Spring Break and will re-open on March 16.
