University Seeks Nominations for Student Club Awards

Chartered student organizations at Texas A&M International University which have worked hard during the 1997-1998 academic year are invited to submit nominations for "University Life Awards" that recognize the contributions of student organizations, their sponsors and members.

University Life Awards will be presented in six categories: Outstanding Community Service, Most Outstanding Sponsor, Leader of the Year, Freshman Excellence, Most Active Student Organization, and Coolest Shirt.

Nomination forms are available from the University's Office of Student Development, located in the Kinesiology and Convocation Center room 107. Deadline to submit nominations is 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 7.

University Life Awards will be presented during a reception at the University's Great Room at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14.

The Outstanding Community Service Award recognizes the chartered student organization which best promotes community service and volunteerism to its members through projects, events or programs conducted for the benefit of the community. Any chartered student organization may be nominated by the organization's members or sponsor. A detailed list of all the community service activities conducted by the student organization in the 1997-1998 academic year should be provided with the completed nomination form.

The Outstanding Sponsor Award recognizes the sponsors of chartered student organizations for their energy, enthusiasm, and outstanding abilities. Sponsors may be nominated by the organizations' members or cosponsor. A detailed description of the sponsor's interest, dedication, and commitment to the development of student leadership should be provided with the completed nomination form. Recipient will be chosen based on personal and professional characteristics; commitment, leadership, and support to the organization; and level of impact.

The Leader of the Year Award gives special recognition to the A&M International undergraduate or graduate student who possesses outstanding leadership qualities. Nominees must have been active members of a chartered student organization during the 1997-1998 academic year. Each organization may nominate one member for this award. Recipient will be chosen based on leadership, activities and duties performed, level of impact, creativity, and activities and projects organized by the nominee.

The Freshman Excellence Award honors a freshman who has been involved in student organizations and who possesses outstanding leadership qualities. Nominees must have no more than 30 credit hours and must have been an active member of a chartered student organization during the 1997-1998 academic year. Student organization members and sponsors may nominate one member of their organization for this award. Recipient will be chosen based on leadership skills, activities and duties performed, level of impact, creativity, and activities and projects organized by the nominee.

The Most Active Student Organization of the Year recognizes the chartered student organization that has demonstrated considerable involvement in on-campus events, community service projects, fundraising endeavors, student activities, and conference participation. Nominations may be submitted by a chartered student organization's members or sponsor. Recipients will be chosen based on active participation in on-campus events, community service, fundraising endeavors, student activities, and conference participation.

The Coolest Shirt Award recognizes the student organization that has a creative, attractive shirt that best visually promotes the organization. Members or sponsors of a chartered student organization may nominate their club's official shirt. An official shirt should be submitted with the completed nomination form.

To be considered for any University Life Awards, completed nomination forms must be returned to the University's Office of Student Development by 5 p.m., April 7.
