A&M International Names Alexander as Vice President for Advancement

Michelle A. Alexander has been named to lead advancement activities for Texas A&M International University.

Alexander's selection as vice president for advancement and external affairs was announced at a special reception held in the University's Great Room in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library.

A&M International president Charles Jennett said Alexander's selection will enable the University to continue its aggressive advancement efforts and develop new initiatives. Her appointment was confirmed by The Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) Board of Regents at its March meeting.

"The University has secured over $14.5 million in external support in the past 5 years that has funded student scholarships, program development and building construction. With Ms. Alexander's assistance, we are looking forward to continuing this aggressive drive for major gift support from alumni, friends, corporations, foundations and government agencies," Dr. Jennett said.

Alexander comes to A&M International from Houston's University of St. Thomas where she was director of major gifts since 1991. While at UST, she created the major giving program and was a major fundraiser in the University's $34.6 million capital campaign.

Prior to her position at the University of St. Thomas, Alexander held advancement positions at Peace College, Raleigh, North Carolina; Lake Erie College, Ohio; The University of Akron, Cleveland State University and Case Western Reserve University.

Alexander holds a BA degree in political science, international relations from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. Additional graduate work has been undertaken at Wayne State and Case Western Reserve University.

As vice president for advancement and external affairs, Alexander will oversee all University advancement and external affairs activities including major gifts, marketing, special events, licensing, public information and publications and alumni relations.

She is district treasurer and member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District IV and the Wayne State University Alumni Association.

Honors accorded her have included being named an "Outstanding Young Woman of America," a "Foremost Woman of the Twentieth Century" and "Who's Who in U.S. Executives." She received the Board of Trustees Award for Outstanding Service from the University of Akron.

She has been the recipient of numerous awards from CASE including the Silver Medal for Improvement in General Programs at the University of Akron; the Grand Award for Capital Campaign at the University of St. Thomas and Achievement and Special Awards at the University of St. Thomas.
