A&M International Dean, Student Make Leadership Presentation in Philadelphia

A Texas A&M International University dean and a student leader recently attended a conference in Philadelphia to make a presentation on how three universities in The Texas A&M University System are teaching leadership skills to their students.

Dr. Stephen Brown, dean of student affairs, and Arturo Sánchez, president of the student government association, attended the conference, organized by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. The two were also accompanied by representatives of Texas A&M University Kingsville and Texas A&M University Corpus Christi.

The group made a presentation about the collaborative student leadership program that the three institutions developed.

The leadership program, held in one of the three campuses every year, draws more than 100 student leaders from clubs and organizations at the three campuses. The student leadership program introduces participants to topics such as recruitment strategies, goal setting, conflict resolution and meeting management, Brown said.

"Students who participate in this program go back to their respective organizations and share those leadership skills with their organizations," Brown said.

This year's program will be held May 17-19 in Kingsville, Brown said. The program gathering will be held at A&M International next year, he added.
