Texas A&M International University Assistant Professor of Spanish Dr. José Cardona-López will present a reading of his literary works on Tuesday, April 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Great Room of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library.

Cardona-López, who holds a doctorate degree in Spanish literature from the University of Kentucky, joined A&M International University as a faculty member in September, 1997 and currently teaches Spanish Literature.

At the event, Cardona-López will read from three of his stories, which include La Puerta del Espejo, Todo es Adrede, and Sueños Para Una Siesta.

"I would like to invite people to come to this event because I want to share some of my works with them. Writers want to share their work and in this case, reading is a good way to do so," Cardona-López said.

Cardona-López, who joined the A&M International faculty team after he held a faculty position at Hanover College in Indiana, said he tries to create an imaginary world for readers in his works.

"I don't like to repeat stories that happen in reality. I want to write about imaginary worlds. I like to write about relationships among couples, children's world, about the absurd. People that read my novels and stories will see that my characters laugh, suffer and have fun at the same time," he explained.

One of Cardona-López's works, Todo es Adrede, was a finalist in the Golden Letters Competition in 1991. The annual competition, held in Miami, recognizes the best literary works of writers from both Latin America and Spain.
