University Presents Lecture on Nursing Across Borders Apr. 24

Health care professionals and other members of the community who are interested in nursing are cordially invited to attend a presentation on nursing across borders to be held at Texas A&M International University on Friday, April 24 at 5 p.m. in Bullock Hall room 101. The free event, and the reception which will follow, are sponsored by the University's Canseco School of Nursing.

The presentation, "Enfermeria Transpasando Fronteras" or "Nursing Transcending Borders," will be offered in Spanish by guest speaker Maricel Manfredi, Regional Advisor in Nursing Education of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO).

Manfredi is responsible for the development of human resources in nursing in the Americas. She works closely with schools, faculties and associations of nursing, ministries of health, and others in promoting and supporting the goal of health for all through the improvement of nursing education.

Prior to her 1981 appointment with PAHO/WHO, she was Dean of the School of Nursing at the Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia, and PAHO Nursing Advisor in Peru for the Andean countries of Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela.

Manfredi was commended by the government of Peru for excellence in her work in advancing education in that country, and has received recognition for professional nursing achievements by the Colombian Association of Faculties and Schools of Nursing and the Scientific Society for Nursing Education of Chile, among others.
