A&M International's Top Business Students Elected To Sigma Beta Delta

Texas A&M International University's top business students will be initiated as members of the Sigma Beta Delta chapter in ceremonies scheduled Friday, May 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the Great Room of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library.

Seven students who have pursued excellence in their academic preparation for careers in business will participate in the ceremony. Dr. William L. Boyd, vice president of academic affairs and provost, will provide the keynote address.

Selected for initiation are: seniors: Veronica Garza, Adolfo Gonzalez IV and Rachel Marie Rodriquez; juniors: Jacque L. Barker, Oswaldo Enrique Carrillo, Miriam Marie Cavazos and Thuy Thi Nguyen.

In recognition of his long-time support of the University's business programs, the chapter will also initiate local businessman David Killam as an honorary member.

The chapter's student members have also selected Dr. Stephen A. McNett and Dr. Stephanie A.M. Smith from the University's College of Business Administration faculty to be initiated in recognition of their outstanding scholarship.

The ceremony will be conducted by the chapter's faculty officers: Dr. Kurt Jesswein, president, Dr. Henry C. Smith, III, vice-president, and Dr. Stephen E. Lunce, faculty advisor.

Only those business majors who rank in the top 20 percent of the university's graduate students, or the top 10 percent of the university's seniors or the top seven percent of the university's juniors, are eligible for invitation to membership.

Sigma Beta Delta was founded as a national organization in 1994 through the sponsorship of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. It was established to provide an opportunity for faculty at institutions with regional accreditation, but not specialized accreditation in business to confer on their business, management or administration students national recognition for their outstanding academic achievements.

The Society also encourages and promotes aspirations toward personal and professional improvement and a life distinguished by honorable service to humankind. Sigma Beta Delta has 94 chapters and has inducted over 5,200 members nationwide.

The Texas A&M International University chapter received its charter from Dr. James H. Bearden, Sigma Beta Delta's National President, at the chapter's installation ceremony last December.
